TAN TAX

Effective July 1, 2010 Congress passed an automatic 10% tan tax on all tanning services including packages and upgrades. This tax is being used to fund the Health Care Reform Bill and singles out a business to pay a disproportionate share of the new measure. You should be able to enjoy our services without a 10% tax added on. Please help us in rescinding the tan tax by going to www.repealtantax.com. EVERY CLICK COUNTS!

Without Sunlight, would you get enough

Vitamin D?

Millions of Americans do not receive enough vitamin d from natural sources in the sun-starved wintertime and are at risk for problems arising from vitamin d deficiency.

So says Dr. Michael Holick, a Boston University light researcher who has coined the term “Vitamin D Winter” to warn millions of Americans in northern climates that they are not receiving sufficient Vitamin D in the wintertime.

Because sun exposure is the body’s only natural source of vitamin D, Holick is concerned that millions of Americans are placing themselves at risk.

“Adults who are not exposed to enough sunlight and do not get enough vitamin D from their diet can develop the bone disease osteomalacia, which causes a softening of the bones. This is particularly important for the elderly, who also often have osteoporosis.”

“Vitamin D is rare in foods. The major food that is fortified with vitamin D is milk. However, recent studies have suggested that milk cannot be depended upon as the sole source of vitamin D since approximately 80% of milk samples tested in the US and Canada did not contain the recommended vitamin D.” Some low-fat skim milk samples contained little or no vitamin D.

Many people are unable or unwilling to eat dairy products. That is why Holick and other bone specialist recommend regular, moderate sun exposure.

Sun exposure is still the body’s only natural way to produce the important vitamin. More and more studies have shown that moderate sun exposure is a critical element to a healthy body.

Don’t be vitamin D deficient! Tan moderately throughout the year. Two-ten minute sessions a week is enough to keep vitamin D levels high. Don’t freeze those packages in the winter. Winter time is the most important time to tan.
